Target tracking is one of the most important applications in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). Energy efficiency is one of the most important design goals for target tracking. The authors propose and evaluate a distributed, energy-efficient, light-weight framework dynamic clustering algorithm for target localization and tracking in wireless sensor networks. Since radio communication is the most energy-consuming operation, this framework aims to reduce the number of messages and the number of message collisions, while providing refined accuracy. The tracking protocol is also adaptive to the target velocity to ensure high accuracy with minimum power consumption.
