In the recent years social networks have undergone explosive growth. They have been used as major tools for the spread of information, ideas and notifications among the members of the network. In this paper, the authors aim at exploiting this new communication channel for emergency notification, to deliver emergency information to all appropriate recipients. They develop ESCAPE, their system for efficient dissemination of emergency information in social networks. They propose an approach that investigates the interactions and relationships established between the members of the social group, and develops a scalable dissemination mechanism that selects the most efficient routes to maximize the information reach.
