Security has become a challenge in wireless sensor networks. Low capabilities of devices, in terms of computational power and energy consumption, make difficult using traditional security protocols. Two main problems related to security protocols arise. Firstly, the overload that security protocols introduce in messages should be reduced at a minimum; every bit the sensor sends consumes energy and, consequently, reduces the life of the device. Secondly, low computational power implies that special cryptographic algorithms that require less powerful processors need to be used.
