EIRENE: Interactive Design and Refinement of Schema Mappings via Data Examples
One of the first steps in the process of integrating information from multiple sources into a desired target format is to specify the relationships, called schema mappings, between the source schemas and the target schema. In this paper, the authors showcase a new methodology for designing schema mappings. Their system Eirene interactively solicits data examples from the mapping designer in order to design a schema mapping between a source schema and a target schema. A data example, in this paper, is a pair consisting of a source instance and a target instance showing the desired outcome of performing data exchange using the schema mapping being designed.
