Ethernet is the most widely used Local Area Network (LAN) technology. The original and most popular version of Ethernet supports a data transmission rate of 10Mb/s. Newer versions of Ethernet called "Fast Ethernet" and "Gigabit Ethernet" support data rates of 100Mb/s and 1Gb/s (1000Mb/s). An Ethernet LAN may use coaxial cable, special grades of twisted pair wiring, or fiber optic cable. "Bus" and "Star" wiring configurations are supported. This small Ethernet remote device opens a completely new world of fantastic applications.
