In a Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) having a single sink, information is given to the distant nodes from beacons by overhearing. Since it is out of the communication range, information is not sent directly to the Static Sink (SS). If a distant node is not able to communicate directly, then it should send its own packet to another node which is closer to the Base Station (BS) so that the received packets are relayed to the BS by this node. In this paper, the authors propose a relay node selection algorithm to reduce contention and improve energy efficiency.
