An ad hoc network refers to a network with no fixed infrastructure and the nodes are assumed to be capable of moving either on their own or carried by the user. However in practice deafness, hidden terminal and exposed terminal problems are some of the common problems causing the overall degradation of the ad hoc network. In the authors' paper, they have developed a novel scheme for random access based medium access control protocol called "Dual sensing directional medium access control protocol" which makes use of two types of antennas namely directional and omni-directional for carrier sensing in medium access control protocol.
