To date, few experimental computer security research efforts have focused on computer systems that interact directly with the physical world - the so-called cyber-physical systems. There are, of course, some exceptions, e.g., various software attacks have been successfully demonstrated on cars, printers, robots and pacemakers with physical consequences. However, the authors argue that the field of experimental computer security research for cyber-physical systems is still in its infancy. This is partly due to the fact that cyber-physical systems are just emerging on the commercial market, but the greater challenge has been how to conduct research in this space.
