Companies, businesses, and enterprises are all being asked to do more with less these days. University campuses, including IT departments, all across the nation are experiencing reduction in budgets and enforced cutbacks. Server virtualization was a piece of the solution to this problem in the past. In addition to decreasing power and cooling needs, server virtualization has increased overall efficiency of the data center and the staff that provides support. This same thought process should be applied to both application and desktop virtualization. Virtualizing applications and desktops offers campus IT staff a way to decrease costs while centralizing support and management, all while improving efficiency.
