The rapid growth in the wireless communication and advancement in mobile devices offer infinite services over mobile cloud environment. However, a mobile cloud faces different challenges such as scarce bandwidth, limited energy, vendor lock-in due to dependency on single service provider, frequent disconnection of the database server and mobile devices. Federating with multiple service providers and caching frequently accessed data is an effective way to provide seamless data access in mobile cloud system. In this paper, the authors propose a new federation scheme which federates two or more service providers using surrogate object for the purpose of reduced network congestion and data access delay. The federated data management in distributed mobile cloud enables further reduction of costs due to partial replication of data to more surrogate objects.
