Secure chips have severe hardware constraints which have triggered a deep revisiting of traditional database techniques, with unusual design choices, leading to build a DBMS kernel called PicoDBMS. The objective of this paper was to answer three important questions. The first question was related to the feasibility of the PicoDBMS approach. The authors showed that the joint efforts from their team and from their industrial partner Gemalto led to a convincing prototype which effectively accommodates real hardware platforms.
