Gain Market Share: Bar-Coding as a Competitive Advantage in Pharmaceuticals
Bar-coding each product's National Drug Code (NDC) number, lot number, and expiration date onto labels will provide substantial benefits to hospitals and retail pharmacies. In addition to the outward focus on customer satisfaction and product differentiation, there are persuasive internal arguments in favor of packaging initiatives, including bar-coding. The use of bar-code technology and data-capture equipment can hold down budgets by ensuring accuracy and preventing costly mistakes.
