Harmonic Reduction Technique Using Controller in SPM Cascaded Multilevel Inverter

A single phase nine level cascaded type multilevel inverter with identical DC supply voltages is designed and presented to reduce harmonic components of the output voltage. To keep the output voltage sinusoidal and to have low harmonics, sinusoidal PWM control scheme is proposed. The conventional PI and fuzzy controller are designed for closed loop control of cascaded multilevel inverter to reduce the harmonics. The comparison is made for open loop and closed loop with PI and fuzzy controller. The comparison results reveal that the THD is reduced to about 5% with fuzzy control compared to open loop and also increases the order of lower harmonics.
