Estimating on when and where the packet losses kick in, especially when the packet lost in local side of network is a problem that received much attention in network of large scale, as enterprise network, that gains a lot of interest in recently. However, previous works are mainly focus on the estimation of loss rates along network paths, or only inferred with a part of data in traces that could not infer local side packet loss in wide ranges of error rates. The authors inherited previous work based on TCP to test packets transmit out from local network and proposed a new method using estimated trip time to detect loss packets when it is forwarded in.
