Inferring Power Line Network Topology Using Frequency Domain Reflectometry

Power Line Communications (PLC) is an attractive means of data communication for a variety of scenarios and applications, including in-home multimedia and utility applications, the latter of which have gained renewed attention under the label of Smart Grid. The analysis and design of PLC systems should rely on sufficiently accurate and representative channel models. Similar to the case of wireless communications, in which objects located in the environment around and between transmitter and receiver affect the transmission channel, also in PLC the grid components in a certain neighborhood of transmitter and receiver determine the transmission channel.
