Information System Design Based on a Domain Ontology and User Requirements

Domain ontologies can support the production of the conceptual schema of a database but lack the behavioral properties that are necessary to generate an operational information system. The authors present an approach to enrich domain ontology by properties extracted from the user requirements. Besides determining the required subset of the ontology, they produce the database of the information system and it's API (Application Programming Interface). This approach is implemented by the ISIS (Information System Initial Specification) platform that generates automatically an operational information system, including a prototypical graphical user interface that enables the users to validate the expressed needs and refine them if necessary.
