Integrating Demand Response Capability into Smart Appliances: Design and Evaluation of Distributed Scheduling

The need for a constant balance between power demand and supply, together with the lack of cost-effective solutions for storing electric energy, affects the efficiency of power grids and limits the integration of renewable sources. Dynamic pricing and demand response programs provide mechanisms to regulate the power demand according to supply conditions. The authors focus on designing an autonomous scheduler for appliances and electric vehicle charging stations. The proposed system enables the integration of automatic demand side management functionalities.
