Designate one waiting room for well baby visits and another for visits by sick kids. A newborn will typically visit the doctor's office several times during his or her first year of life. Well baby visits are used to check that the baby has gained adequate weight. Pediatricians give lifesaving immunizations and discuss any medical concerns the mother may have about proper feeding techniques and new baby care. Children also visit the pediatrician if they are not feeling well. Dividing the office into patients who are being seen because they are sick and those who are being seen to get a check up will help minimize the spread of contagious diseases.
