An embedded monitoring device to deal with the heterogeneity of devices and software systems requires a flexible solution that can lower complexity and decrease development, deployment and system maintenance costs is presented. Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) has proven successful in leveraging these costs and it is seen as enabling technology for the development of enterprise systems. Applying SOA to deeply constrained devices such as sensor nodes is still an open research problem. This paper takes a dim-ferment approach - deploying interoperable Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP)-based web services directly on the nodes and not using gateways.
