Investigation the Signal Strength of ESPAR Antenna with Omni-Directional and Directional Antennas on a D-Link Wireless System

In this paper, the authors investigate performance of a smart ESPAR (Electronically Steerable Passive Array Radiator) antenna with omni-directional and directional antennas. Performance of wireless network systems depends on the kind of antenna that is used. Every type of antenna has specific characteristics that determine gain, direction and bandwidth. Background of smart antennas has been discussed along with their classification. An experiment has been conducted involving the measurement of signal strength that is offered by the three antennas. The points of testing the signal strength are different with variations in distance and obstacles in the path.
