A single feed compact microstrip antenna with resonant frequency 3.1GHz is proposed in this paper. L slot is etched on the patch to study the effect of the slot on radiation behavior with respect to a conventional microstrip patch. The antenna design is based on a single layer RT duroid 5880 substrate, having dielectric constant of 2.4 and a loss tangent of 0.001. Multiple frequencies are obtained at 2.63 GHz, 2.92 GHz & 3.95 GHz. The characteristics of the designed structure are investigated by using MOM based electromagnetic solver, IE3D.
