In this paper, the authors investigate the problem of gathering of correlated data in WSNs for network lifetime maximization. By analyzing network traffic and power consumption, the authors propose a mixed integer programming model, which integrates power control and routing selection. A decomposition algorithm is presented to solve the model by decomposing the model into two independent convex optimization problems. They can obtain the optimal transmission power, transmission rate and routing selection solution via the sub-gradient. The simulation results show that the cross-layer design algorithm proposed in the paper can reduce data traffic, balance energy consumption and prolong the network lifetime effectively.
