In this paper, the authors explain about a novel algorithm formulated with k-means clustering performed on remote sensing images. The fields of remote sensing are very wide and its techniques and applications are used both in the data acquisition method and data processing procedures. It is also a fast developing field with respect to all the above terms. Remote sensing plays a very important role in understanding the natural and human processes affecting the earth's minerals. The k-means clustering technique is used for segmentation or feature selection of passive and active imaging and non-imaging remote sensing, on airborne or on satellite platforms, from monochromatic to hyperspectral.
