Radio frequency MEMS (Micro-ElectroMechanical Systems) have been keyed out as technology areas that hold the potential to provide a major impact on existing system architectures in wireless sensors and mobile communications. Switched capacitors based on Radio Frequency Micro-ElectroMechanical Systems (RF MEMS) can enable a breakthrough in radio technology. This paper describes these technologies should bring down weight, cost, size, and power dissipation by a few orders of magnitude. Their switching principle is founded along the mechanical movement of the dentures of a parallel plate capacitor using the electrostatic force.
