Online Music Distribution: A New Era?

The paper deals with the monitoring of a new development in the music industry: digital music, also known as online music because it relies on the Internet for its distribution (i.e., the consumer downloads a digital music file, or MP3 file, from the Web). Less than a decade later, digital music - with its Internet platform - has altered the entire music industry landscape in terms of marketing, distribution, and revenue-generation. Just as importantly, it has ushered in a consumer behavioral paradigm shift with regard to music listening, discovery, storage, and acquisition.
