Ontology Based Semantic Integration of Heterogeneous Databases

Database is used to manage and store the information in tabular form. When the volume of information increases, the enterprises are forced to store information in multiple heterogeneous databases depending upon their current usage scenarios. Integration of these heterogeneous databases is essential to sustain consistency among the databases. Integrating relational databases is recently acknowledged as an important vision on semantic web research. Interoperability is the main problem that needs to be addressed when heterogeneous databases are integrated. Semantic integration of heterogeneous databases not only accesses data from different types of databases in a consistent manner but also retrieves the semantically related data present in different types of databases. This fosters efficient retrieval of semantically related information from multiple databases.
