Optimized Placement of Gateways for Routing Protocols in Wireless Mesh Networks
Due to the multi-hop nature combined with the relative stable and static topology, Wireless Mesh Networks are considered as the future candidate to provide the broadband wireless access in the user's premises. Unlike the Mobile Ad-hoc Networks, Wireless Mesh Networks are under the authority of a central administration having built in infrastructure. Previous studies have established that the placement of Gateway routers inside the Wireless Mesh Networks' topology have a great impact on the network overall performance. This paper investigates the response of different routing protocols to the Gateway placement in the Wireless Mesh Networks in terms of routing overhead, network latency and packet delivery ratio.
