Compression of video is everywhere in today's multimedia and Internet world. The increasing demand to incorporate video data into telecommunications services, multimedia applications, the corporate environment, the entertainment industry, and even at home has made digital video technology a necessity. In this paper, the authors present a wavelet-based approach for compressing video, with high speed, good image quality and better compression ratio. The flexibility of wavelet decomposition structure provides on-demand scalability. Simulation results are provided to evaluate the performance of the codec with various motion estimation techniques and multi-resolution nature of wavelet transformation.
