A Mobile Ad-hoc NETwork (MANET) is a wireless network that doesn't need any pre-existing infrastructure and in which all the nodes act as host as well as router. There is problem of frequent route breakages and changing topologies. So one such protocol needs to be designed, which can perform well in all these dynamically changing scenarios. A lot of protocols have been developed by modifying pre existing wired or wireless network protocols and they have been extensively simulated and tested in various scenarios.
