The ever-increasing energy consumption of cloud datacenter has been receiving increasing attention and advocates power-aware technologies to minimize power consumption. In resource management panel, Virtual Machine (VM) placement is a feasible way for power saving by allocating physical resource. In this paper, the authors propose virtual machine placement algorithm to allocate multiple resource in heterogeneous cloud scenarios for power-saving. Vector bin packing problem is formulated based on extended power model, combining power consumption of CPU and memory. After analyzing the drawback of typical vector based algorithms, they introduce Power-aware Heuristic Vector Placement (PHVP) algorithm for heterogeneous VM placement.
