Multi-Processor SoCs (MPSoCs) have emerged as one possible solution to cope with the demand of increasing performance and computational power. However, since all processors are typically connected to the same bus, contention can occur, which results in a degradation of performance and in an increase of energy consumption. The authors present a high-level method for rapidly and accurately predicting bus contention effects on energy and performance in multi-processor SoCs. Unlike most other approaches, which rely on Transaction-Level Modeling (TLM), they infer the information they need directly from executing the algorithmic specification, without needing to build any high-level architectural model.
