In this paper, the authors analyze the potential of project wikis as a means of lean design management. Lean Design Management (LDM) is an extension of lean construction principles into the design process to help minimize waste and add value to the customer experience. Recently, wikis have sprung up in a variety of industries and are considered the status quo of collaboration. The AEC (Architecture, Engineering and Construction) market has a complex chain of tasks, information flow and other issues to achieve project success. Hence, LDM is adopted for its design management process to meet customer requirements. When implemented appropriately, many lean principles can be integrated into the process to improve on challenges faced by design teams that include communication, collaboration and the model of Transformation, Flow and Value-generation (TFV).
