Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) can be constructed as an intelligent, large autonomous instrument for scientific observation at fine temporal and spatial granularities and over large areas such as environmental monitoring. WSNs typically operate under light load and suddenly become activate in response to a detected or monitored events. Depending on the application this can result in the generation of a large, sudden, and correlated impulse of data that must be delivered to a small no of sinks without disrupting the performance of the sensing application.
