Software projects may encounter schedule slippage during its life cycle due to a variety of reasons. Such circumstances require the project managers to compress the schedule, which is a daunting task as it involves mitigating innumerable challenges and issues. This paper attempts to unearth the various challenges and issues that are typically faced while exhuming and dragging a delayed project back on track. It focuses on the two popular time-boxing based compression approaches crashing and fast-tracking and then, analyzes the challenges and issues involved in each through a relevant case study.
