A Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is a group of sensors that are geographically distributed and interconnected by wireless networks. There exists a tradeoff in the form of security issues such as data integrity, confidentiality, and freshness in data aggregation that increase manifold when the WSN is deployed in a remote or hostile environment having more probability of sensor compromise. The paper aims to optimize the security-communication issue as per the sensitivity of the data and communication overhead involved. The paper focuses on data aggregation techniques for managing a balance between Quality of Service (QoS) needed as per the criticality of operations and security as per the attacker profile.
