Technology trends and socio-economic drivers are steering the evolution of networks towards a fabric capable of interconnecting a sheer number of interacting and heterogeneous computing and storage resources. This paper argues that constraints optimization is valid approach for both designing self-organization and controlling stability in computing and networking ecosystems. In this direction, the concept of ecosystem utility function is proposed, whose maximization allows avoiding the potential conflicts of multiple control-loops thus maintaining the ecosystem's stability.
