As a widely used biometrics, face recognition has many advantages such as being non-intrusive, natural and passive. On the other hand, in real-life scenarios with uncontrolled environment, pose variation up to side-view positions makes face recognition a challenging work. In this paper, the authors discuss the use of side-view face recognition in house safety applications. Their goal is to recognize people as they pass through doors in order to estimate their location in the house. In order to preserve privacy of the people they attach their cameras on the door posts to limit the view, and deal with side-view face images.
