Simulation and Analysis of Sensor MAC Protocol in Large Wireless Sensor Networks Based on the Network Simulator NS-3
Medium Access Control (MAC) is an important technique to control the access to the shared channel in wireless sensor networks. In this work, the performance of sensor-MAC protocol, in terms of energy consumption and throughput and delay, is investigated based on the network simulator NS-3. The newly developed simulator NS-3 is intended as a replacement of the widely used NS-2 and has all the capabilities of networks. The module of sensor-MAC is built on the released module of 802.11 MAC in NS-3. The simulation result of sensor-MAC is identified in a string topology with ten nodes. Furthermore, the paper compares the simulation results of energy consumption, energy efficiency and latency in the large networks with a small size network.
