In the backdrop of exponentially growing data, digital archiving is becoming more and more important. The ever growing volumes of data along with stringent regulatory and industry compliance requirements are the main drivers for long term archival solutions. Just using backup tapes to fulfill the requirements for archiving is not sufficient. There are many unique challenges for digital archiving, the long retention periods being the most relevant. Periodic technological refresh is required to assure that data and systems are migrated to newer technology while the authenticity and the readability of the data are being assured.
