Structural Health Monitoring of Bridge Using an Adaptive Real-Time Wireless Sensor Network
An adaptive sensing approach enabling both strain-based and vibration-based monitoring provides an effective approach for transitioning structural health monitoring to the nation's bridge on a grand scale. The platform was designed specifically to provide the capability to enable expeditious system identification, as well as load rating of highway bridges without compromising the typical data acquisition parameters employed in comparable cable-based tests. The wireless sensor nodes detect and establish wireless communication with neighboring nodes automatically. Real-time accelerometer data was transmitted from each node and collected by a centralized server through multiple hop relays.
