The most common transport protocol is the transmission control protocol. Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) is reliable, connection oriented transport protocol which provides end-to-end data delivery in networks. TCP was primarily designed for wired networks and it shows performance degradation when used in wireless networks. The main concern in wireless networks with TCP is the packet loss which is mostly considered to have occurred due to congestion. The transmission control protocol comes in many variants like TCP, Tahoe, Reno, New Reno, Vegas, Sack and so on. In a mobile ad hoc network or dynamic environment, temporary link failures and route changes happen frequently. With the assumption that all packet losses are due to congestion, TCP performs poorly in such environment.
