Wireless technology is a form of telecommunication in which signals are carried by the electromagnetic waves in the air without the help of the cables or wires. This paper is to explain the IEEE 802.11 WLAN standard. This standard is also known as Wi-Fi. The various specifications of Wi-Fi have been discussed in the paper. The merits and demerits of Wi-Fi along with the different transmission technologies have been revised. Finally, a brief compression between the Wi-Fi and WIMAX with various features has been explained in this paper.
