Embedded computing systems surround the user in their daily life. They are application specific computing systems embedded into a technical context. Examples of embedded computing systems are automotive, train, and avionic control systems, smart phones, medical devices, home and industrial automation systems, etc. In contrast to general purpose computing systems, embedded computing systems are not only optimized for performance; they additionally have to satisfy power, area, reliability, real-time constraints, to name just a few. As a consequence, the computing platform is adapted to the given application.
