DDoS attacks are in such widespread use that it’s practically a household term.

According to the Verisign DDoS Trends Report for the second quarter of 2016, the number of DDoS attacks increased by 75% year over year. Akamai’s State of the Internet study found even larger growth, stating that the first quarter for 2016 witnessed an increase of 125% year-over-year.

In September 2016, cybersecurity journalist Brian Krebs fell victim to one of the largest DDoS attacks ever recorded: 620 Gbps.
