Wireless relaying technology has been recently proposed as a method that promises significant performance improvement in wireless communications without any power increase. Among the most common relaying techniques is so-called relay selection which has been extensively analyzed in the literature and is conceptually related to antenna selection in multi-antenna schemes. In relay selection, the system is able to select a single relay out of the set of available relays, in order to take advantage of the multiple paths available and thus achieve spatial diversity.
