In addition to the tragic human costs they bring, workplace accidents and injuries are fiscally costly to organizations and the world economy. According to the International Labour Organization, four percent of the world's Gross Domestic Product is lost due to accidents and work-related diseases. The Finnish Institute of Occupational Health reports that 120,000 occupational accidents occur each year in Finland; on average, 15 lost work days occur per accident.
