Cloud computing promises incredible benefits in terms of speed, flexibility, and cost. But many enterprises are dragging their feet, worried about security. Indeed, sharing data over vast networks outside the business's perimeter does raise big questions: Who has access to the user's data? How can user control it? How can user establish trust between users and the services with which they interact? Bodies such as the Cloud Security Alliance (CSA), and providers such as Symantec, are working hard to put in place standards, specifications, and protocols for cloud computing, which will improve governance, simplify interoperability, and enforce security controls.
