"A MANET consists of autonomous mobile nodes that are free to roam arbitrarily with no centralized controller such as a router to determine the communication paths. Each node in the ad hoc network has to rely on each other in order to forward packets. This kind of nature of MANET requires mobile nodes to have good cooperation with each other to ensure that the initiated data transmission process is a success. However, it is not easy to ensure cooperation since there is a possibility that the existing nodes behave selfishly in the network."
