Malware - the increasingly common vehicle by which criminal organizations facilitate online crime - has become an artifact whose use intersects multiple major security threats (e.g., botnets) faced by information security practitioners. The paper explores the still-growing threat of website malware, specifically how hackers compromise websites and how users become infected. The consequences of malware attacks - including Google blacklisting - are also explored with an introduction describing the evolution, history & various types of malware. Types of malware described include virus, worms, Trojans, adware, spyware, backdoors and rootkits that can disastrously affect a Microsoft windows operating system.
