Since the earliest days of virtualization, organizations have been increasing the agility and scalability of their IT environments and improving server utilization. However, the cloud vision of true computing elasticity, on-demand scalability and total abstraction of services from underlying infrastructure is only today becoming a reality. As new cloud technologies emerge to deliver this vision, public clouds such as AWS and Rack space have grown massively, with Ubuntu becoming one of the most popular instances running on them. These clouds have re-defined the economy of IT service delivery, giving businesses access to enormous computing power with no requirement to build costly infrastructure in-house.
